House J&M – Borrowdale, Harare is conceived as a contemporary private residence designed to reflect refined suburban living within one of Harare’s most established neighbourhoods. The project responds to the client’s desire for a home that balances architectural elegance with practical family functionality.

Positioned within the prestigious Borrowdale residential setting, the house establishes a confident yet welcoming presence through articulated volumes, layered façades, and carefully proportioned massing. The design emphasises spatial clarity, natural lighting, and seamless indoor–outdoor integration.

Design Inspiration

The architectural concept draws inspiration from modern luxury residential design, where strong geometric forms are softened through material layering and landscape integration. Horizontal rooflines are complemented by vertical accent elements, creating a balanced and visually refined composition.

Large glazed openings enhance natural daylight and create visual continuity between interior spaces and landscaped outdoor areas. The material palette reflects contemporary sophistication while maintaining warmth and residential comfort.

Architectural Strategy

The planning strategy is structured around clear functional zoning to enhance privacy, movement, and usability. Public entertainment spaces are positioned to maximise openness and interaction, while private bedroom areas are carefully arranged to ensure comfort and retreat.

Circulation routes are designed for intuitive flow, and transitional outdoor spaces are integrated to extend living areas beyond the built envelope.
